CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Midfielder Lori Lindsey (Indianapolis, Ind./ Pike) was named the ACC Women’s Soccer Player of the Year in a vote by conference coaches. The third-year leads the Cavaliers in goals and points this season with 9 and 20, respectively. The team captain has started all 16 of the 16 games she has appeared in this season. Her selection marks the first time that a Virginia player has received player of the year honors.
In addition to Lindsey, three other Cavalier players received conference honors. Fourth-year midfielder Katie Tracy (Richmond, Va./ James River), and second-year defender Kelly Worden (Spring, Texas/ Klein) were voted to the All-ACC Second Team. It is the first time either player has been named to an All-ACC First-or Second Team.
Tracy is fourth on the team in points (9) and first in minutes played (1482). She is also the team captain, and a stalwart in the UVa midfield.
Meanwhile, Worden had played every minute of every game this season until a knee injury sidelined her in the Cavaliers’ final regular season game of the year, a 1-0 victory over Florida State. She has been an outstanding defensive presence for Virginia, despite playing out of her natural midfield position.
First-year Sarah Lane (Wheaton, Ill./ Wheaton North) rounded out the Cavaliers’ ACC honorees. Lane, who is tied for third on the team in points (11) and goals (5), was selected to the ACC All-Freshmen Team.
