CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia men’s head basketball coach Pete Gillen has announced the signing of four individuals to national letters of intent with Virginia. The four individuals are 6-8 forward Elton Brown of Newport News, Va., 6-8 forward Jason Clark of Virginia Beach, Va., 6-3 guard Jermaine Harper from Gardena, Calif., and 6-3 guard Keith Jenifer from Baltimore, Md.
Brown averaged 24.8 points and 14.5 rebounds a game as a junior during the 1999-2000 season for Warwick High School. He led the Peninsula District in both of those categories. Brown was named the Most Valuable Player of the AAU National Tournament last summer in Orlando, Fla.
Clark averaged 15 points, 10 rebounds and 4.5 blocked shots a game at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va., last season. He was named to the AAU All-American Team last summer in Orlando, Fla.
Harper averaged 17.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists a game as a junior last season at Blue Ridge School in St. George, Va. He earned All-Central Virginia, All-Prep League and Virginia Independent All-State honors. Blue Ridge School finished the 1999-2000 season with a 21-6 record and won the Virginia Independent Schools Division I Championship.
Jenifer averaged 18.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.5 assists a game last season at Towson Catholic High School, and was a first-team All-Baltimore Metro selection for the second consecutive year. He also earned first-team Baltimore Catholic League and first-team All-City/County honors. Jenifer is attending Hargrave Military Academy this year.
“We are really excited about the four student-athletes who have decided to join our basketball program at Virginia,” Gillen said. “They will be a great credit to our school both on and off the court.”
