COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Virginia second-year swimmer Cara Lane (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) earned second and third-place finishes in the 200-meter butterfly and 400-meter freestyle, respectively, on Thursday evening (November 16) at the 2000 FINA World Cup at the University of Maryland Campus Recreation Center Natatorium. In addition, former Virginia swimmer and current volunteer assistant coach Ed Moses (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) won the 100-meter breaststroke to sweep the three breaststroke events at the two-day FINA World Cup.

Lane, who won the 800-meter freestyle in the first day of competition on Wednesday, finished second in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:12.65. She then finished third in the next women’s event, the 400-meter freestyle in 4:12.55. In the preliminaries of the 400 free, Lane recorded the top time (4:14.14) and was second in the prelims of the 200 butterfly (2:15.16) as well.

UVa first-year Amy Baly (Atlanta, Ga./Marist School) garnered a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter individual medley with a time of 4:49.38. Baly was also 11th in the prelims of the 400 free in 4:25.34. Fourth-year Megan Iffland (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark’s) clocked a time of 1:03.19 to take fifth place in the 100-meter backstroke. Iffland was 15th in the preliminaries of the 100 free (58.74) as well. First-year Carlie Dykehouse (Gainesville, Fla./Trinity Prep) posted a sixth-place finish in the 200 butterfly as she touched in 2:15.63. Third-year Megan Roesch (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) rounded out UVa’s women’s competitors in the FINA World Cup with an 18th-place showing in the prelims of the 100 free (59.42).

Moses touched in 1:00.06 in winning the 100 breaststroke after finishing third in the prelims (1:02.92). He also won the 50 (27.61) and 200 breaststroke (2:11.54) titles Wednesday night to sweep the breaststroke events for the second-consecutive year.

Doak Finch (Southern Pines, N.C./O’Neal), another volunteer assistant coach and former Virginia standout, earned a pair of fifth-place finishes at the FINA World Cup. Finch clocked a time of 55.36 to take fifth in the 100-meter butterfly and posted a time of 2:08.25 to grab fifth in the 200-meter individual medley.

The 12th-ranked Virginia women’s swimming and diving team returns to action November 30-Deceber 2 at its own Cavalier Classic at the UVa Aquatic and Fitness Center.
