Cavalier Women’s Basketball Falls To Texas In Two Overtimes, 56-55

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Texas scored four of the first five points indouble overtime and beat No. 16 Virginia 56-55 in a Preseason WNIT consolationgame Monday.

Texas led 56-53, when Schuye LaRue’s pulled Virginia within a point. TheCavaliers (2-2) got the ball back with 14 seconds left, but Telisha Quarles‘3-point attempt failed at the buzzer.

The Longhorns (3-1) shot just 25 percent from the floor while Virginia (2-2)finished at 30 percent. The two teams combined for 135 attempts.

Tracy Cook led Texas with 12 points and Lindsey Ryan scored 11.

LaRue finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Chalois Lias added 14points for Virginia.

Texas shot 5-of-29 from the floor in the first half and trailed 24-16 with alittle more than three minutes left. But six straight free throws and LindseyRyan’s 3-pointer pulled the Longhorns to 26-25 at halftime.

Texas took a 32-27 lead early in the second half, but Virginia came back totie the score at 42. Dai Dillard gave the Longhorns a 44-42 lead.

The Cavaliers had three attempts at the basket in the final minute ofregulation and eventually tied it on LaRue’s layup with 2.2 seconds left.

Virginia trailed 52-47, but scored the next five points to end the firstovertime at 52-52.
