BALTIMORE (AP) – Schuye LaRue scored 20 of her game-high 26 points in thefirst half and added a game-high 11 rebounds as No. 16 Virginia cruised to a67-46 win over Loyola Saturday.
LaRue took command from the start, scoring the first eight points of thegame. She went 9-of-12 from the field in the first half, and her layup with 30seconds remaining gave the Cavaliers (3-2) a 35-17 halftime lead.
Virginia’s defense held Loyola (1-2) to 27.1 percent shooting from thefield, and not a single Loyola player reached double figures. Erica Rath andSherika Wilson led the Greyhounds with eight points each.
Virginia also pressured Loyola into committing 23 turnovers.
Svetlana Volyana added 12 points for the Cavaliers, who stopped a two-gamelosing streak with the victory.
The Greyhounds made a 13-2 run in the second half to prevent a blowout,cutting Virginia’s lead to 13 with 4:44 remaining. But Telisha Quarlesimmediately hit a three-pointer to end the run.
