CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia head coach Debbie Ryan announced the signings of five student-athletes to national letters of intent for the upcoming 2001-2002 academic year. LaTonya Blue, Jocelyn Logan-Friend, Bethany LeSueur, Lynette O’Reggio, and Brandi Teamer will join the Virginia women’s basketball program next year.
Blue, a 6-2 guard/forward from Baltimore, Maryland, attended St. Frances Academy. She earned USA Today and Street & Smith honorable mention All-America honors. Logan-Friend, a 6-1 forward from Cheverly, Maryland, was named the 2000 Gatorade Player of the Year for the District of Columbia. She was ranked No. 81 by Blue Star. Logan-Friend averaged 14 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks per game in her first three seasons at St. John’s High School in Washington.
LeSueur, a 5-11 guard from Garden City, New York, was a USA Today All-American honorable mention selection. She led her Garden City High School team to the state tournament three times. LeSueur was named Honorable Mention All-NYC Area after scoring 1,000 points as a freshman. She is rated among the top 20 high school players in the nation by a number of scouting services. LeSueur was ranked No. 12 by Blue Star, No. 47 by All Star Girls Report, and No. 8 by Full Court Press. O’Reggio, a 6-4 center from Laurel, Maryland, averaged 10 points, 14 rebounds, and five blocks per game for Elizabeth Seton High School in Bladensburg, Md. She led her school to a 28-5 record and a second place finish in the Washington Catholic Association.
Teamer, a 6-2 forward from Joleit, Illinois, attended high school at the Berkshire School. She was listed as the nation’s No. 48 recruit in the Class of 2000 by the All-Star Girls Report. Teamer is currently attending the Miller School in Crozet.
