CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The # 63 University of Virginia women’s tennis team defeated the # 67 Virginia Tech Hokies, 5-2, Wednesday (March 21) at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville. The match was moved to the Boar’s Head and the match time was changed from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. due to inclement weather in the Charlottesville area.

UVa found itself down 1-0 early after losing all three doubles matches. However, the Cavaliers’ top four singles players responded to the deficit by winning their matches in straight sets to clinch a Virginia victory. Jennifer Tuchband (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) also won her match at No. 5 singles to give UVa the 5-2 final margin.

Third-year Amy O’Donnell (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) was the Cavaliers’ first player to win. She defeated Tech’s Kristen Stubbs, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1 singles to set the table for UVa’s come-from-behind win.

With the victory, Virginia is now 10-4 overall on the season. The Cavaliers play again on Sunday (March 25) when they take on Virginia Commonwealth at 1:00 p.m. at Snyder Tennis Center.
