CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 45 University of Virginia men’s tennis team lost an Atlantic Coast Conference match to #23 Georgia Tech, 5-2, Saturday (Mar. 31) at the Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville. Virginia narrowly lost the doubles point and then lost four-of-six singles matches to drop to 8-4 overall and 2-3 in the ACC.
UVa’s Brian Vahaly (Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School) and Huntley Montgomery (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) defeated Roger Anderson and David Wright at No. 1 doubles, 8-6. Georgia Tech captured No. 3 doubles, 8-4, and then won at No. 2 when Romain Coirault and Joao Menano narrowly defeated UVa’s Tommy Croker (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephens) and Michael Duquette (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy), 9-8.
In singles, Vahaly won his sixth consecutive match at No. 1, defeating Coirault 6-2, 6-0, and Montgomery won at No. 2, 6-4, 6-4, over Anderson. The Cavaliers lost at No. 3-No. 6, giving the Yellow Jackets the 5-2 margin of victory.
Virginia returns to action tomorrow (Sunday, April 1) against Furman at 2:30 p.m. at the Snyder Tennis Center.
