CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia baseball players Dan Street (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) and Brandon Creswell (Newport News, Va./Menchville) were named to the 2001 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division I Baseball All-Star Team. Street was chosen a first team all-state selection, while Creswell gathered honorable mention honors.
Street, a third-year utility player for Virginia, started 44 of the 45 games he appeared in at either first base, second base, third base or as a right-handed pitcher. He finished second on UVa with a .343 batting average after recording 57 hits in 166 at-bats with 43 RBI and 33 runs scored. Street posted nine home runs, nine doubles, one triple and a .572 slugging percentage for the season. He tallied 156 putouts and 76 assists for a .959 fielding percentage and was 5-for-7 in stolen base attempts. Street also finished 4-4 on the mound after starting 10 games as a pitcher and recorded a complete game in five of those contests. He turned in a 2.37 ERA after going 75.0 innings, posted 36 strikeouts and held opposing batters to a .219 batting average.
Street was named a First Team All-ACC selection and was also named the ACC PItcher of the Week (2/19) and the ACC Player of the Week (4/23).
Creswell, a fourth-year left-handed pitcher, started all 14 games he appeared in this season. He finished the year with a 7-4 record and posted a 3.42 ERA. Creswell pitched a team-high 100.0 innings and led UVa with a team-high 75 strikeouts. He pitched four complete games and recorded one shutout when he paced Virginia to a 5-0 victory over the #3 ranked Miami Hurricanes on April 27, 2001 in Coral Gables, Fla. He held opposing batters to a .288 batting average for the season.
Creswell was named a First Team All-ACC selection and was twice named the ACC Pitcher of the Week (April 2 and April 16). He was also named the ACC Co-Pitcher of the Week after sharing the honor on April 30th.
Street and Creswell paced the Cavaliers to a 25-31 record overall, 9-15 in the ACC. Virginia went 1-2 in the ACC Tournament.
