FUKUOKA, JAPAN – Former University of Virginia swimmer Ed Moses (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) advanced to the finals of the 100-meter breaststroke Monday (July 23) at the ninth FINA World Swimming Championships. Moses, who posted the second fastest time in the semifinals, will compete in the final on Tuesday (July 24).
In the preliminary round, Moses clocked a time of 1:01.12 to finish third overall. He turned in a time of 1:00.55 in the semifinals, good for second. Roman Sloudnov of Russia is the top seed entering the final as he broke his own world record with a time of 59.54 in the semis.
Rising Virginia third-year Mirjana Bosevska (Skopje, Macedonia/Trinity Prep) competed in the 400-meter individual medley for Macedonia and finished 17th in the prelims with a time of 4:53.01. Bosevska will also compete in the 200-meter butterfly and 1500-meter freestyle later in the FINA World Swimming Championships.
In addition to the 100 breast, Moses is scheduled to compete in the 50 and 200-meter breaststroke.
