FUKUOKA, JAPAN – Former University of Virginia swimmer Ed Moses (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) finished third in the finals of the 100-meter breaststroke Tuesday (July 24) at the ninth FINA World Swimming Championships. Moses was third behind Russia’s Roman Sloudnov, the world record holder, and Italy’s Domenico Fioravanti, the 2000 Olympic gold medalist.
Moses clocked a time of 1:00.61 to take third place. Sloudnov won the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.16, while Fioravanti was second in 1:00.47. Moses posted the second fastest time in Monday’s semifinals at 1:00.55 after recording a time of 1:01.12 in the preliminary round.
Moses will compete in the 200-meter breaststroke beginning Wednesday and the 50-meter breaststroke beginning on Saturday.
Rising Virginia third-year Mirjana Bosevska (Skopje, Macedonia/Trinity Prep) competed in the 400-meter individual medley and 200-meter butterfly for Macedonia in the FINA World Swimming Championships on Sunday. Bosevska placed 20th in the preliminaries of the 200 fly with a time of 2:18.24 and in the 400-meter individual medley, she finished 17th in the prelims with a time of 4:53.01. Bosevska will compete in the 1500-meter freestyle on July 27.
