Moses Places Fifth In Finals Of 200 Breaststroke At FINA World Swimming Championships

FUKUOKA, JAPAN – Former University of Virginia swimmer Ed Moses (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) finished fifth in the finals of the 200-meter breaststroke Thursday (July 26) at the ninth FINA World Swimming Championships. Rising Virginia third-year Mirjana Bosevska (Skopje, Macedonia/Trinity Prep), who is competing for Macedonia, placed 16th in the 200-meter individual medley.

Moses, who was sixth after the semifinals of the 200 breast on Wednesday, touched in 2:11.38 to finish fifth in the finals. Brendan Hansen, Moses’ teammate, won the gold medal with a time of 2:10.69. Austria’s Maxim Podoprigora was second with a time of 2:11.09, just 29 hundredths of a second faster than Moses’ fifth-place performance.

Moses was third in the 100-meter breaststroke earlier in the FINA World Swimming Championships with a time of 1:00.61. He will also compete in the 50-meter breaststroke beginning on Saturday (July 28).

Bosevska was 16th in the semifinals of the 200-meter individual medley as she clocked a time of 2:19.22. She was 14th in the preliminary round with a time of 2:18.56.

Earlier in the FINA World Swimming Championships, Bosevska finished 17th in the 400-meter individual medley (4:53.01) and 20th in the 200-meter butterfly (2:18.34). Bosevska will compete in the 1500-meter freestyle on July 27.
