CHARLOTTESVILLE – Former University of Virginia basketball player Ted Jeffries was recently named an assistant men’s basketball coach at Coastal Carolina University.

The 6-9 Jeffries lettered four times for the Cavaliers from the 1989-90 season through the 1992-93 season. He was a team captain as a senior in 1992-93 when he averaged 10.3 points and 8.0 rebounds a game. He received UVa’s Michael McCann Leadership Award that season.

For his career, Jeffries started 127 of the 129 games in which he played. He averaged 6.4 points and 6.1 rebounds a game for his career, while shooting 48.9 percent (331-677) from the field and 61.7 percent (158-256) from the free throw line. He still ranks eighth on Virginia’s career blocked shots list with 82.

Jeffries has played internationally on the professional level for the last eight years. During that period he has played in Poland, Latvia, Germany, Turkey and Japan.
