The Virginia women’s cross country team, fresh off a sixth-place finish at the Roy Griak Invitational in which they defeated seven top-25 teams, is ranked 15th in the latest Division I women’s cross country poll. This is the highest ranking for the Cavaliers since they were #12 the week of October 12, 1993. The Cavaliers, who were ranked #25 at the end of the 2000 season, finished fifth at the NCAA Southeast Regional in 2000 and just barely missed an invitation to the NCAA Championships. The women return six of the top seven from last year, and last year’s only non-returner, Dana Coons (graduation), remains with the team as an assistant coach. The Cavaliers also welcome back Jennifer Owens, an All-American from 1999, who is back training with the team. Sarah Folse, an All-ACC perfomer from last season, is also back for the Hoos.
