Women's Soccer Defeats George Mason, 1-0

FAIRFAX, VA – The University of Virginia women’s soccer team moved to 7-2-1 overall on the season with a 1-0 win over in-state rival George Mason on Sunday (Oct. 7) in Farifax, Va. Senior co-captain Laura Gaworecki scored the game’s only goal in the 35th-minute of play to give UVa its third win of the season in three tries over teams from Virginia.
Gaworecki scored her second goal of the season at 34:05 of the first half, when she knocked in a rebound from her own shot. The game-winner gave Virginia its sixth non-conference win of the season.
The ‘Hoos dominated play against the Patriots, out-shooting George Mason, 11-4, and generating three corner kicks to the Patriots’ one. Goalkeeper Anne Abernethy was forced to make just one save in the victory.
Virginia returns to action on Wednesday, October 10, when the Cavaliers resume their Atlantic Coast Conference schedule with a home game against Maryland. Kick off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Kl?ckner Stadium.
