Virginia’s Emily White (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) made nine saves in the Cavaliers’ game against North Carolina, but the Tar Heels (13-4) were still able to slip three past her as they took the 3-0 victory today in Chapel Hill. The Hoos (11-6) outcornered the Tar Heels in the first half 2-1 but they were unable to capitalize on either chance, and the Heels scored twice in the first 35 minutes to take a 2-0 lead they would not relinquish.
After Virginia got the first shot on goal, which came off the stick of Katie Slocum (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle Area), the Tar Heels scored on a scramble in front of the cage in which Stephanie Fuller stuck in a rebound with 21:46 to play in the first half. The Tar Heels struck again as Amber Chambers scored off an unsettled play with 9:38 to go in the stanza. UNC led 2-0 at the break.
With 19 minutes gone in the second period, UNC’s Laura Douglas sent a ball into the circle and Kerry Falgowski tipped it into the cage, putting Carolina up by 3. That would close out the scoring for the game.
The Cavaliers managed four corners in the second half but were unable to find the boards.
Virginia closes out the regular season with a game at home against Duke on Sunday, October 28. Game time against the Blue Devils is 1:00 pm
