David Curry Named Assistant Lacrosse Coach

Charlottesville, Va. – Head men’s lacrosse coach Dom Starsia has announced the hiring of former Cavalier standout David Curry as an assistant coach on his staff. Curry replaces Tucker Radebaugh, who resigned earlier in the summer to play with the Boston Cannons Major League Lacrosse and pursue other interests.
For Curry, a 1997 UVa graduate with a degree in government, this is his first foray into collegiate coaching. He has worked as an associate in corporate bond sales at Lehman Brothers in New York City since his graduation from UVa.
“I’m excited to be able to return to UVa,” Curry said. “I’ve thought about getting into coaching since I finished my college career and the Virginia position is the one that has been tops on my list. I hope to be able to pass along some of what I’ve learned during my playing days to the players on the team this season and in the future.”
Owner of one of the hardest shots in the game, Curry began his collegiate playing career at division III Gettysburg, where he earned All-America status in 1994 and 1995 before transferring to UVa for his final two seasons.
A native of New Canaan, Conn., he was third on the team with 30 goals in his first season at UVa in 1996. Curry was named to the NCAA Championships All-Tournament team that season as the Cavaliers fell to Princeton 13-12 in overtime in the title game.
Curry was named first-team All-American as a senior when he was Virginia’s second-leading scorer with 33 goals. He was also named All-Atlantic Coast Conference and to the All-ACC Tournament team as Virginia won its first-ever ACC Tournament championship.
In 1998 Curry was a member of the United States National Team that captured the title at the World Games with a 15-14 overtime win over Canada. This summer he is playing with the New Jersey Pride of Major League Lacrosse and was on the winning National squad in the first MLL All-Star game earlier this month.
Curry is expected to begin his duties at Virginia in September.
