Former Virginia Player Harold Deane Allocated To NBDL Team

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Former University of Virginia basketball standout Harold Deane was allocated recently to the Roanoke Dazzle of the National Basketball Development League (NBDL).

Deane, from Ettrick, Va., lettered four times as a guard for the Cavaliers from the 1993-94 season through the 1996-97 season. He averaged 14.5 points and 3.8 assists a game for his Virginia career. He finished his career ranked seventh in points (1,763), second in three-point field goals (237), fourth in assists (468) and third in steals (179) on UVa’s career lists in those categories.

Deane earned second-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors as a sophomore and a junior, and was a third-team All-ACC selection as a senior. He was also voted to the ACC All-Defensive Team by the conference’s head coaches his senior season and was a member of the All-ACC Freshman Team in 1994. He was named to the NCAA Midwest Regional All-Tournament Team as a sophomore in 1995 after helping lead the Cavaliers to three NCAA Tournament victories.

Last season, Deane averaged 9.9 point and 3.5 assists a game in 14 games for Lokomotiv Mineralnye Vody of the Russian Super League. He also played in 28 games for the Maryland Mustangs of the United States Basketball League (USBL) and averaged 9.5 points a game.

Deane played part of the 1999-2000 season with BC Johanneum Hamburg (Germany) and he played the 1999 USBL season with the Washington Congressionals. In 1997-98 he played for Polisportiva Dinamo Sassari (Italy).

Roanoke is one of eight charter teams in the National Basketball Development League. The other teams are located in Asheville, N.C., Columbus, Ga., Fayetteville, N.C., Greenville, S.C., Huntsville, Ala., Mobile, Ala., and North Charleston, S.C. Each team will be allocated a total of four players. A minimum of one allocation player is guaranteed a spot on each team’s final roster.
