GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Virginia swimmers Cara Lane (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) and Luke Anderson (Charlottesville, Va./Bolles School) have been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s and Men’s Swimmers of the Week, respectively, as announced Monday (January 21). Lane, a third-year All-American, was also the co-recipient of the women’s ACC swimming award last week.
Lane, a three-time ACC Swimmer of the Week selection last season, helped 14th-ranked Virginia remain undefeated (7-0, 4-0 ACC) with a 112-105 win over Duke and a 156-144 victory over 12th-ranked North Carolina. Against the Tar Heels, Lane posted season-best times in the 500 free (4:52.93), 1000 free (9:49.70) and 200 butterfly (2:01.85). Her time in the 1000 free is currently tops in the ACC. Lane also anchored Virginia’s “B” 400 free relay team to a second-place finish behind the Cavaliers’ “A” squad with a time 3:33.90.
Anderson, a second-year All-American, won a pair of individual events and swam on two winning relays as Virginia defeated North Carolina, 189-111. The Cavaliers also defeated Duke (111-80) to move atop the league standings with a 6-1 record, 4-0 in the ACC. Anderson won the 50 free (20:45) and 100 free (44.91) against North Carolina while helping Virginia take the 200 medley relay (1:31.70) and the 400 free relay (3:02.60). The 200 medley time was the Cavaliers’ best so far this season.
The Virginia women’s and men’s swimming and diving teams return to action on Saturday, January 26 when they travel to Columbia, S.C. for a 12 noon meet against South Carolina.
