Virginia Divers Finish 24th At NCAA Zone Qualifying Meet

LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Virginia third-year Alison Sharp (Newton, Pa./Council Rock) and second-year Pete Amstutz (St. Joseph, Mich./St. Joseph) both turned in 24th-place finishes Saturday (March 16) in the second and final day of competition at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships at the University of Kentucky’s Lancaster Aquatic Center. Sharp was 24th in the women’s three-meter diving competition, while Amstutz tied for 24h on the men’s one-meter board.
Sharp, who finished a career-best 19th in the one-meter competition Friday, turned in another career-best finish with a 24th-place showing with 240.45 points in the women’s three-meter competition Saturday. Her previous best finish on the three-meter board in the Zone Meet was 33rd in 2000.
Amstutz scored 255.10 points to tie N.C. State’s Jared Bunch for 24th place on the men’s one-meter board. In his first career event at the NCAA Zone B Regionals Friday, Amstutz scored 278.50 points to finish 20th in the men’s three-meter diving competition.
