CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Cavalier women’s basketball player Bethany LeSueur has requested and been granted a release from the University of Virginia to transfer, school officials announced on Monday.
The 5-10 guard from Garden City, N.Y., played in 22 games with one start last season as a freshman. She shot a perfect 100 percent from the line in five contests. LeSueur missed six games in late December and early January due to mononucleosis. She scored a career-high eight points and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds in the win over Howard, playing a season-high 21 minutes. She started the season opener at Hampton.
“We’re very sorry to see Bethany go,” said UVa head coach Debbie Ryan. “She had a difficult year due to her illness, and we wish her the best in the future.”
With the release, LeSueur is free to pursue other educational opportunities.
Virginia finished the 2001-02 campaign at 17-13 with a third-place finish in the ACC and a 19th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
