Golf Stands 24th at NCAA East Regional

ROSWELL, Ga – The University of Virginia men’s golf team stands 24th of 27 teams after the first round of the 2002 NCAA East Regional at the Ansley Golf Club on Thursday.
Clemson holds a five-stroke lead over host Georgia Tech, ranked No. 1 nationally, with a 186 (-1). The Yellow Jackets are second with a 291 (+3), while Tennessee is third at 294 (+6). The Cavaliers carded a 312 (+24).
Individually, Clemson’s D.J. Trahan shot a three-under 69 to lead the field of 141 competitors. Penn State’s Jim Fuller, Georgia Southern’s Tyler McKeever, Vanderbilt’s Brandt Snedeker, and Georgia Tech’s Matt Weiberg are tied for second with a 70 (-2).
UVa junior Justin Goodhue (Glastonbury, Conn.) follows by one stroke to tie for sixth with a one-under 71. Senior Steve Marino (Fairfax, Va.) shot a 75 (+3). Senior Shivin Kwatra (New Delhi, India) and sophomore Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) are tied for 127th with an 83 (+11).Junior Thomas Lee (Guttenburg, N.J.) is tied for 136th with an 84 (+12).
The second round of the NCAA East Regional tees off on Friday, May 17 at 7:12 a.m. The Cavaliers tee off from the 10th tee at 8:42 a.m. Fans may follow live scoring via the internet at Golf Stat. The regional concludes on Saturday, May 18.
