CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Atlantic Coast Conference 50th Anniversary Baseball Team was announced today by Commissioner John Swofford. The 52-member team was voted on by the nine league institutions that sponsor the sport as decided by the league’s 50th Anniversary Committee. Virginia had two former players, Brian Buchanan and Seth Greisinger, selected to the squad.
Clemson led all league schools with 12 members on the Golden Anniversary team while Georgia Tech had the second most players selected with nine. N.C. State and Wake Forest each had seven players selected, followed by Florida State with six, North Carolina with four, Duke with three and Virginia with two.
Buchanan (1992-1994) is one of only two UVa players ever drafted in the MLB Draft first round when he was selected in the first round of the MLB Draft in 1994 by the New York Yankees. At Virginia, Buchanan was named a First-Team Baseball America All-America selection as an outfielder and was named a Collegiate Baseball All-America Second-Team selection as an outfielder in 1994. Buchanan was also selected to the 1994 All-ACC First Team.

Greisinger (1994-1996) was a standout pitcher for the Cavaliers who joins Buchanan as one of only two Virginia baseball players selected in the MLB Draft first round after being selected in the first round of the 1996 MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers. He was named an ABCA First-Team All-American, a Baseball America First-Team All-American and a Collegiate Baseball First-Team All-American in 1996. Greisinger was also named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 1996 ACC Baseball Tournament and was a Second-Team All-ACC selection in 1996. He helped guide Virginia to only its third NCAA Regional appearance when he aided UVa to a 3-2 mark in the 1996 South I Regional in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
