CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The UVa women’s tennis team is ranked at No. 40 in the ITA Tennis preseason rankings. Returning five starters, while losing just two, the Cavaliers are in good position to be a top contender for the ACC Crown this season.

Co-captains for this year’s team are Amy O’Donnell and Christine Kim. O’Donnell leads all returning players with 55 career wins, while Kim is 31-8 during her career. Other returnees include Laura James (28-12), Jennifer Tuchband (53-24) and Henriette Williams (42-28). Newcomers include Dora and Marta Bechliwanis, Elizabeth Hornberger and Logan Smith.

Individually, Williams is ranked No. 19 in the East, while Marta Bechliwanis is ranked No. 30 in the East. Williams went 3-2 at No. 1 this past fall for the Cavaliers, while Bechliwanis had a team-best seven wins during the fall season at No. 3. The team of Dora Bechliwanis and Tuchband is ranked No. 15 in doubles, in the East region. Bechliwanis and Tuchband collected seven wins at No. 1 doubles for the Cavaliers this past fall.

Other ACC teams ranked include Duke at No. 3, Wake Forest at No. 15, Florida State at No. 34, Georgia Tech at No. 47 and Clemson at No. 70.

The Cavaliers begin their spring season on Jan. 26 with a home match against Marshall.
