GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia third-year diver Pete Amstutz (St. Joseph, Mich./St. Joseph) has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week. Amstutz swept the one and three-meter diving competitions in UVa’s 126-101 win over Duke on Saturday (November 2) and set the UVa Aquatic and Fitness Center pool and school record on the one-meter board. It marks the second consecutive week a Cavalier has earned the ACC’s weekly award as first-year Fran Crippen garnered the honor last week.

Amstutz set the six-dive one-meter school and pool record in winning that competition with a score of 326.78 points. The previous school record was 315.95 by Derek Husmann in 1993. South Carolina’s Andy Bradley set the pool record on the one-meter board (315.53) last week (October 26), only to have Amstutz break the record a week later. With his performance on the one-meter board, Amstutz qualified for the NCAA Zone B Diving Regionals, which will be held March 14-16 at the University of Auburn. Amstutz was also victorious in the three-meter diving competition against Duke with a season-best score of 285.68 points.

The Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams, ranked 13th and 10th in the nation, respectively, return to action on Friday, November 8 when they travel to State College, Pa. for a 2:00 p.m. meet against Penn State. The Nittany Lion men are ranked 14th in the nation, while the women are 16th.
