Two Cavalier Women's Soccer Players Honored

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Two members of the Virginia women’s soccer team receiving postseason honors this week. Senior defender Kelly Worden (Spring, Texas) was named to the first team of the NSCAA/Adidas All-Mid Atlantic Team announced Tuesday. On Monday, first year midfielder Kelly Hammond (Bowie, Md.) was named as a finalist for Soccer Buzz Magazine’s National Freshman of the Year.
Worden was a first team All-ACC selection this past year as she anchored the Cavalier defense. She set a new school record by playing in 2,040 minutes this past season. In addition to her strong defensive play, Worden contributed to the offense with a career high three goals.
Hammond started 21 games for the Cavaliers in 2002 and was named to the ACC All-Freshman team. She led the team in shots and assists this season as she has two goals and five assists in her rookie season. She is one of 12 finalists for the Soccer Buzz award to be announced at a later date.
