OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – University of Virginia men’s basketball players Roger Mason, Jr., (Silver Spring, Md.) and Travis Watson (Brookneal, Va.) are members of the 2002 Division I All-District 5 Team as selected by members of the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Mason is a first-team selection and Watson a second-team selection.

Mason, a 6-5 junior guard, leads the Cavaliers in scoring (18.2 ppg.), assists (4.5 apg.), minutes played (35.3 mpg.), field goals made (121), three-point field goals made (60) and free throw percentage (98-108, .907). He leads the Atlantic Coast Conference in free throw percentage and is third in scoring.

Watson, a 6-8 junior forward/center, leads the ACC in rebounding (10.5 rpg.) and double-doubles (14). He is averaging 14.0 points a game, while shooting 51.6 percent from the field (110-213) and 71.4 percent from the free throw line (70-98). Watson has 35 career double-doubles to lead all active ACC players.

The NABC Division I All-District 5 first team is comprised of Mason, Carlos Boozer (Duke), Mike Dunleavy (Duke), Juan Dixon (Maryland) and Jason Williams (Duke). The second team is made up of Watson, Lonnie Baxter (Maryland), Anthony Grundy (North Carolina State), Josh Howard (Wake Forest) and Darius Songalia (Wake Forest).

Members of the 15 All-District teams are now eligible for the NABC Division I All-America Team to be announced at the conclusion of the 2001-02 season.

Virginia is currently 16-6 overall and 6-5 in the ACC.
