The Series vs. the Dragons

After a more than 50-year hiatus, the Cavaliers and Dragons meet again for the second time. The first meeting between the two saw the Cavaliers triumph 7-2 in Philadelphia in the second game of the 1947 season.

Virginia in Preseason Polls

The Cavaliers are ranked fifth in the Face-off Yearbook coaches poll and sixth in Lacrosse magazine’s preseason poll. The last time Virginia was ranked below fourth in the preseason occurred in 1999 when the Cavaliers were ranked fifth. In a scenario this year’s team would no doubt like to repeat, the Cavaliers went on to win the national championship that year.Virginia faces nine teams ranked in the Face-Off Yearbook Top 25 including #2 Syracuse on March 2, #1 Princeton on March 9, #11 Notre Dame on March 12, #4 Towson on March 17, #3 Johns Hopkins on March 23, #6 Maryland on March 30, #13 North Carolina on April 6, #9 Duke on April 13 and #16 Penn State on April 27.

UVa’s schedule has been listed as the second-toughest in the country by Face-Off Yearbook behind Johns Hopkins.

Virginia in Season Openers

The Cavaliers open their 69th season of play today with a match-up against the Drexel Dragons. Virginia is 36-31-1 (.537) all-time in season openers. When the season opener is at home, the Cavaliers have compiled a 21-15-1 (.581) record throughout the years.

Starsia Goes for 100th Win at UVa, Approaches Rare Feat

With each victory, head coach Dom Starsia moves closer to several coaching milestones. In his 20th season as a collegiate head coach, Starsia has fashioned a 200-82 record and is the seventh-winningest active Division I coach. His 200th career victory came in an 11-8 win over Butler last season.

In his 10th year at the helm of the Virginia program, Starsia’s Cavalier squads have compiled a 99-36 overall record. With his next victory, Starsia would become only the second coach in school history to win 100 games. Jim Adams won a school-record 137 games (and lost 60) at Virginia from 1978-92.

Starsia won 101 games in 10 seasons at Brown and as he passes the 200-career victory mark, he is also drawing nearer to becoming only the third coach in college history (as best as we can tell) to win 100-or-more games at two different schools.

A look at the known coaches who have won 100+ games at two different schools are listed below. It is interesting to note that the two coaches with 100+ wins at two schools are both still coaching.
