Golf Finishes Seventh at Seminole Intercollegiate

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Virginia men’s golf team finished seventh at the Seminole Intercollegiate after 54 holes at the Golden Eagle Country Club.
ACC rival North Carolina paced the field of 15 with a 875 (+11). Alabama-Birmingham shot the best final round (291) to jump into second place with a 880 (+16). Duke was third with a 884 (+20). The Cavaliers, who shot a 298 during the last 18 holes, totaled 897 (+33).
Individually, Alabama-Birmingham’s Graeme McDowell fired a 10-under 206 to capture medalist honors. Four players tied for second place with a 213 (-3).
Cavalier senior Steve Marino (Fairfax, Va.), the defending Seminole medalist, tied for seventh with a one-under 215. Sophomore Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) tied for 27th with a 226 (+10), while junior Justin Goodhue (Glastonbury, Conn.) followed by three strokes with a 229 (+13) to tie for 39th. Senior Shep Nowlin (Lynchburg, Va.) tied at No. 42 with a 230 (+14). Sophomore Kevin O’Connell (Potomac, Md.) follows by two strokes with a 232 (+16) to tie for 52nd.
Virginia takes a four-day break before competing at the Birkdale Collegiate Golf Classic in Huntersville, N.C.
