Virginia's Adam Hall Competes In Slam Dunk Championship

ATLANTA, Ga. – Adam Hall of the University of Virginia narrowly missed advancing to the semifinal round of the slam dunk competition at the 14th annual college Slam Dunk and Three-Point Basketball Championships Thursday night (March 28) in Atlanta, Ga. The competition took place at the Georgia State University Sports Arena.

Hall, a 6-5 forward/guard from Katy, Texas, had an average score of 30.4 for his two dunks in the first round. Four of the eight players participating in the competition advanced to the semifinals and those four players included Freddie Jones (Oregon, 38.8), Brandon Dean (Arkansas, 38.8), Chris Richardson (UNLV, 36.8) and Rolan Roberts (Southern Illinois, 30.8). Failing to advance to the semifinals in addition to Hall were Antwan Scott (Wake Forest, 25.7), Ryan Humphrey (Notre Dame, 20.3) and Devin Brown (Texas-San Antonio, 12.0).

Dean and Roberts advanced to the finals and were declared co-champions when each had a score of 38.0 for his final dunk.

The event featured the slam dunk contest, a men’s three-point contest, a women’s three-point contest and a three-point shootout between the men’s and women’s champions. ESPN taped the event with Brad Nessler, Brad Daugherty and Jimmy Dykes serving as hosts of the program that will air on Saturday (March 30) from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Hall averaged 9.7 points and 4.6 rebounds a game for the Cavaliers as a senior during the 2001-02 season. He was a team tri-captain and started 16 of the 19 games in which he played during the season. He missed 10 games because of a foot injury.

Hall averaged 10.2 points and 4.9 rebounds a game for his career, and ranks eighth on the Cavaliers’ career list for steals (157) and 11th on the three-point field goals made list (89). He scored 1,104 points during his career and started 88 games.
