Evening report… Day two…

Disappointed. Disgruntled. Shocked. Following the 92-72 loss to the Wolfpack, the Cavaliers were left wondering what they could have done differently. After the players took their showers, many sat by their locker just sitting and contemplating the events that had just occurred. They had been told all week how important this game would be in determining what would be for the postseason. They were told it was a game they had to have. However, they were not told that NC State would shoot lights out. In the end, the statistics read 60.4% for the game, including 9 of 10 from outside the arc in the 2nd half.

The players felt they played hard on Defense. Unfortunately, they just ran into a hot Wolfpack team. When asked after the game about the possibility of a NCAA tournament birth, Coach Gillen acknowledged that, “Today was a Big Day for us.”

As for the players, they are confident they can move forward regardless of who or where they play. Freshman Elton Brown said that, “If we make the NCAA, we’ll show people why we needed to make it. If we make the NIT, we’ve just got to make the best of the situation.”

Well, the Cavaliers are done for this weekend. The team is staying in Charlotte tonight, but may fly back to Charlottesville as early as tomorrow evening. Tournament play continues tonight with the Duke- North Carolina and the Wake Forest- Georgia Tech games. Check back later for more news from the Queen City…
