Golf Stands Seventh at ACC Championship After Second Round

BADIN LAKE, N.C – The University of Virginia men’s golf stands seven after the second round of the 2002 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship at the Old State Club at Uwharrie Point on Saturday.

Georgia Tech, ranked No. 1 nationally, leads the nine squads with a 21-under 555. Second-ranked Clemson follows with a 16-under 560, while N.C. State is third at 567 (-9). The Cavaliers carded a 586 (+10).

Individually, UNC’s Dustin Bray continues to lead the field of 45 golfers with an 11-under 133. Georgia Tech’s Nicholas Thompson follows by three strokes for second place with a 136 (-8). Tech’s Matt Weibring is third with a 138 (-6).

UVa senior Steve Marino (Fairfax, Va.) moved up to 12th place after firing a two-under 70 in the second round for a 142 (-2) total. Junior Thomas Lee (Guttenburg, N.J.) stands 30th with a 147 (+3). Sophomore Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) is tied for 31st with a 148 (+4), while junior Justin Goodhue (Glastonbury, Conn.) is 40th with a 151 (+7). Freshman Scott McMahon (Austin, Texas) is 42nd with a 153 (+9).

Tee times for the ACC Championship final round begin at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 21.
