BLACKSBURG, Va – The University of Virginia women’s tennis team continued their play at the ITA Regional Championships Sunday at Virginia Tech. Lauren Bruch (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Mariko Fritz-Krockow (Fairfax, Va.) each continued their strong performance at the event as they each reached the quarterfinals of singles play and the semifinals of doubles.

In singles, each player won a round of 16 match on Sunday. Bruch, a No. 17-32 seed, advanced with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Sylvia Urickova of VCU, a No. 9-16 seed. Fritz-Krockow, a No. 9-16 seed, advanced with a 7-6, 6-1 upset of the No. 5 seed, Eva Wang of Harvard.

In doubles play, the team of Bruch and Fritz-Krockow, seeded 9-16, upset the tournament’s No. 1 seed, Kate Boomershine and Candice Fuchs of William & Mary 8-2 in the quarterfinals.

The action continues Monday at Virginia Tech.
