CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia returns home for two games this week. On Wednesday, Jan. 7, UVa hosts Radford in non-conference action at 7:30 p.m. at University Hall.
The Highlanders, under the tutelage of second-year head coach Jeri Porter, stand 6-4 overall after a 68-32 loss at Florida International. Senior Amanda Neby is the top scorer with 14.7 ppg and 6.8 rpg. Junior Taryn Causey adds 10.2 ppg and 4.4 rpg.
Radford holds a 7-4 series advantage over Virginia since the teams first met in 1975. Actually, nine of those 11 games were played before 1980. Riding a three-game series winning streak, Virginia captured a 96-56 win in the teams’ last outing on Dec. 21, 1998.
The Cavaliers then entertain Georgia Tech on Monday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. RSN-TV (Comcast Sports Net, Fox Sports Net South, and Sunshine Network) will televise the game live.
The Yellow Jackets, under the guidance of first-year head coach MaChelle Joseph, stand 10-3 overall and 1-0 in the ACC after a 66-59 win over Florida State on Jan. 2. Fallon Stokes is the team leader with 18.6 ppg and 6.8 rpg, while Alex Stewart adds 9.2 ppg. Georgia Tech hosts Duke on Jan. 8 before traveling to Charlottesville.
Virginia holds a 46-7 series advantage over Georgia Tech since the teams’ first meeting in 1979. Riding a four–game series win streak, UVa swept both game last season, winning 74-63 at home and 56-54 in Atlanta.
Virginia, under the guidance of 27th-year head coach Debbie Ryan, stands 5-7 overall and 0-2 in the ACC.
Junior Brandi Teamer is on track to become the 21st Cavalier to net 1,000 points in her career. Teamer has 981 points in 72 games. She needs 19 points to break into the Cavs’ top 20 all-time scorers list.
