MOBILE, Ala. – University of Virginia quarterback Matt Schaub (West Chester, Pa.) will participate in the 2004 Senior Bowl on Jan. 24 in Mobile, Ala., bowl officials announced on Thursday.

Six quarterbacks will play in the contest, including the nation’s top rated passer, the all-time or single season passing leaders at five NCAA schools, the Pac-10’s single season passing record holder and top NFL draft prospects at the position.

Joining Schaub on the South team are Philip Rivers (NC State), and J.P. Losman (Tulane). The North squad will be led by Jon Navarre (Michigan), Cody Pickett (Washington), and Josh Harris (Bowling Green).

“Every one of these guys has the arm strength, the measurables and the competitive attitude to lead an NFL team,” said Senior Bowl President Steve Hale. “This is an outstanding group of quarterbacks from a production standpoint, as well as an ability standpoint. If I had to pick a word to describe all six, it’s competitive.”

Schaub owns virtually every major Virginia passing record including career passing yards with 7,502 and career touchdowns with 56. Named the ACC Player of the Year in 2002 , the 6-5, 240-pounder threw for 2,952 and 18 touchdowns this past season and closed out his career with an MVP performance in Virginia’s Continental Tire Bowl victory over Pittsburgh when he threw for 244 yards and a touchdown.

Senior Bowl tickets sell for $ 24, $ 18 and $ 12 each and can be purchased by calling 251-432-4109 or ordered through the bowl’s website at seniorbowl.com.
