GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Virginia fourth-year swimmer Adam Kerpelman (Lutherville, Md./St. Paul’s School) has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week as announced Monday (January 12). Kerpelman won one individual event and swam the anchor leg on two winning UVa relays in the 11th-ranked Cavaliers’ 135-106 victory over 12th-ranked Tennessee January 10 at the UVa Aquatic and Fitness Center.
Kerpelman, an All-American, helped Virginia get off to a great start in the meet against Tennessee by anchoring the winning 400 medley relay that posted an ACC season-best time of 3:16.97. In his second event of the meet, the 100 freestyle, Kerpelman clocked a winning time of 45.31, a personal-best this season. He then anchored UVa’s winning 400 free relay that posted a season-best time of 3:00.85 in the final event of the meet.
Kerpelman is the second Cavalier men’s swimmer to earn the ACC’s weekly award this season as second-year Fran Crippen (Conshohocken, Pa./Germantown Academy) is a three-time recipient in 2003-2004.
With the victory, the 11th-ranked Cavalier men improved to 5-1 on the season. The Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams return to action on Saturday, January 17 when they host ACC rival N.C. State at the UVa Aquatic and Fitness Center.
