Charlottesville, Va. – The Virginia men’s lacrosse team is ranked No. 1 in the Face-Off Yearbook preseason coaches poll. This is the first time since 2000 the Cavaliers have been listed No. 1 in the preseason coaches poll.
They received 26 first-place votes and 1244 points to barely edge Johns Hopkins for the top spot. The Blue Jays tallied 1243 points, including 24 first-place votes.
The top-two spots mimic last year’s national finalists as Virginia defeated Johns Hopkins 9-7 to win the national championship. The Cavaliers defeated Johns Hopkins 9-7 to win the last season’s national championship.
Among UVa’s 11 regular-season games, nine are against teams ranked in the preseason poll.
