CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia wrestling team will host a tri-meet with the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Davidson Wildcats on Saturday, January 24th in UVa’s Memorial Gymnasium. Virginia will face North Carolina in an Atlantic Coast Conference dual match beginning at 1:00 PM, before meeting Davidson in a non-conference dual match at 4:30 PM. The Tar Heels and Wildcats will face off in between UVa’s matches with North Carolina and Davidson. The competition is Virginia’s home-opener.
The Cavaliers (1-2 overall, 0-0 ACC) enter this weekend’s dual matches with two of the top wrestlers in the country at 141 and 165 pounds. Virginia’s Scott Moore is ranked #2 at 141-pounds with a record of 30-0 with 21 wins coming by fall, while Tim Foley is ranked #12 at 165-pounds with a record of 18-3 with eight wins coming by fall.
Last season, UVa recorded its first win over UNC in 28 years (since the 1975 season) after the Cavaliers defeated the Tar Heels 20-17 on January 24th, 2002 in Chapel Hill, N.C. Virginia also posted a 36-11 victory over Davidson last season on January 25th, 2002 in Davidson, N.C.
