J.R. Reynolds Selected ACC Rookie of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Virginia freshman J.R. Reynolds is the Atlantic Coast Conference men’s basketball Rookie of the Week for his performance in UVa’s games with Clemson University and the University of North Carolina last week.

Reynolds, a 6-2 1/2 guard from Roanoke, Va., scored 26 points and shot 64.3 percent from the field in the two games. He was 9-14 from the field, including 5-10 from three-point range, and 3-4 from the free throw line. He also had four assists, three steals and three rebounds in 51 minutes of action in the two games.

In Virginia’s 61-50 victory over Clemson at University Hall on Jan. 20, Reynolds scored a team-high 11 points and tied for the team high with three assists. He was 4-5 from the field, including 3-4 from three-point range, and 0-1 from the free throw line. He also tied for the team high with three steals in 25 minutes of playing time.

In UVa’s 96-77 loss at North Carolina on Jan. 24, Reynolds scored a season-high 15 points and had three rebounds. He was 5-9 (55.6 percent) from the field, including 2-6 from three-point range, and he made all three of his free throw attempts. He also had one assist in 26 minutes of action.

Florida State guard Tim Pickett was selected the ACC Player of the Week.
