CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Fresh off his 11-7 double overtime victory over previously #1 ranked Teyon Ware of Oklahoma in the 38th Annual National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Star Classic on Monday, University of Virginia wrestler Scott Moore (Franklin, Pa./Franklin Academy) finds himself ranked #1 in the country at 141-pounds. Moore, who is a perfect 35-0 with an NCAA-leading 25 victories coming by fall, is the first known UVa wrestler ever to be ranked number one in the country.
Moore has won or taken first place in all seven invitationals/tournaments that he has competed in this season. He won the Michigan State Open, Cornell’s Body Bar Invitational, the Mat Town USA Invitational, the Collegiate Beast of the East, UNC Greensboro’s Southern Scuffle, the Virginia Intercollegiate State Wrestling Championships and won his match in the NWCA All-Star Classic. Moore has already shattered the UVa school record for most pins in a single season with his 25 falls (the former school record was 11) and is currently third all-time for most falls in a career at UVa midway through one season.
