CHARLOTTESVILLE – The No. 28 ranked Virginia men’s tennis team opened up the home part of their 2004 schedule with a pair of wins Saturday at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. The Cavaliers defeated Georgetown 6-1 in the morning and Norfolk State 6-1 in the evening.
The Cavaliers (5-0) were led by Darrin Cohen (Lafayette, Calif.), Nick Meythaler (Owensboro, Ky.), Rylan Rizza (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) and Tim Taylor (Lake Forest, Ill.), who all posted singles wins in both matches. Chris Gonyer (Louisville, Ky.) and Marko Miklo (Bratislava, Slovakia) also had singles wins. Virginia also swept the doubles matches in each of the dual matches.
“I was pleased with our play today,” said Virginia head coach Brian Boland. “Today we got some matches for players on our team that haven’t been in the lineup in our first three matches. It is good to keep our momentum going because we have an important match Wednesday.”
The Cavaliers return to action on February 11 as they visit No. 55 Virginia Tech. Virginia opens the ACC season next Saturday when it hosts NC State at the Boar’s Head Sports Club at 6:00 p.m.
