Virginia Wrestling Pulls Away From George Mason, 29-14

FAIRFAX, Va. – The University of Virginia wrestling team recorded its second consecutive victory this weekend and won its seventh dual match this season after posting a 29-14 victory over the George Mason Patriots in a non-conference dual match. The Cavaliers won six of the ten bouts in the dual against GMU. UVa snapped an early 3-3 tie after two matches and cruised to a 15-point win over its in-state opponent.
Virginia’s ranked duo of #1 Scott Moore (141-pounds) and #13 Tim Foley (165-pounds) each recorded a fall against George Mason. The Cavaliers’ 197-pounder Kevin Collier also won by fall while UVa’s 125-pounder Brian Sticca posted a technical fall victory to highlight UVa’s efforts. The Cavaliers’ Paul Bjorlo (157-pounds) and Michael Grogan (174-pounds) each posted a pair of decisions to guide UVa to the 15-point victory.
With the victory, Virginia’s record improves to 7-4 overall. The loss drops George Mason’s record to 2-7 on the season.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Saturday, February 14th when UVa travels to Raleigh, N.C. and to Durham, N.C. to face the N.C. State Wolfpack and the Duke Blue Devils in a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference dual matches. Virginia will meet N.C. State at 2:00 PM before facing Duke at 7:00 PM.
