CYPRESS, TX – The Virginia men’s golf team stands in tenth place after the first two rounds of the season-opening Rice Invitational.
The Cavaliers shot rounds of 301 (+13) and 303 (+15) for a first-day total of 604 (+28). Denver is leading the 14-team field after a combined score of 584 (+8) over two rounds. UT-San Antonio holds second at 588 (+12), while North Texas rounds out the top three at 593 (+17). Host Rice sits in 13th after a 612 (+36).
Denver’s James Love is the individual leader after firing a 139 (-5) in the opening two rounds. UT Pan-American’s Rudy Celedon, North Texas’ Brad Gibson, and Barrett Jarosch of Denver are tied for second at 143 (-1).
Sophomore Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) paced UVa with a score of 149 (72-77/+5), which put him in a tie for 17th place. Freshman Daniel McGurk (Woodlands, Texas) is tied for 29th after a 151 (75-76/+7). Senior Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) shot a 152 (78-74/+8) to tie for 33rd. Junior Kevin O’Connell (Potomac, Md.) shot a 155 (76-79/+11), good for a tie for 53rd, and sophomore Eamonn McLoughlin (Amityville, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring with a 157 (81-76/+13) and a tie for 59th.
The Rice Intercollegiate will resume tomorrow, Tuesday, February 10th at 8 a.m. CST at the Blackhorse North Golf Course.
