NCAA Tennis Begins Friday in Charlottesville

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 6 seed Virginia men’s tennis team opens NCAA First Round action with American on Friday, May 14 at the Snyder Tennis Center.
The Cavaliers play at 10 a.m., while Mississippi State and Wake Forest play in the other match at 2 p.m. The team winners advance to second round play, scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 15. All matches will be played the UVa’s Snyder Tennis Center, and the event is open to the public.
The Cavaliers (22-3) are ranked No. 10 by the ITA after winning their first ACC Championship . The program is making its sixth NCAA appearance, the first since 2001.
American (14-7) won its third consecutive Patriot League title to qualify for the tournament. Mississippi State (8-13) is ranked No. 29 in the nation by the ITA, after upsetting Tennessee in the opening round of the SEC Tournament, before falling to eventual conference champion Georgia in the quarterfinals. Wake Forest (11-10) is ranked No. 42 in the nation. The Demon Deacons dropped a 4-3 match to the Cavaliers in Charlottesville on March 20 in the regular season match.
The winner of the second round match will advance with the winner of the other 15 regionals to the NCAA Championships May 22-25 in Tulsa, Okla.
