Virginia Awarded #1 Seed In Charlottesville Regional, Will Open Against Princeton In 2004 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia baseball team (42-13, 18-6 ACC) was awarded the #1 seed in the Charlottesville Regional for the upcoming 2004 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship. The Cavaliers will host the Vanderbilt Commodores (42-17, 16-14 SEC), the George Mason Patriots (39-17, 20-4 CAA) and the Princeton Tigers (27-18, 12-8 Ivy League) on June 4-6 at Davenport Field at the UVa Baseball Stadium. UVa’s first contest of the event will be against #4 seeded Princeton on Friday, June 4th at 7:00 PM.
The NCAA Regional is a double-elimination tournament consisting of four teams playing a total of at least six games (seven if necessary). There will be two games on Friday, three contests on Saturday and one game (or two if necessary) on Sunday.
Virginia, the #1 seed, will face #4 seeded Princeton in Game 2 which is the second of two games scheduled for Friday. The first contest (Game 1) of the Charlottesville Regional will match #2 seeded Vanderbilt against #3 seeded George Mason at 3:00 PM. The loser of Game 1 (Vanderbilt vs. George Mason) will play the loser of Game 2 (Virginia vs. Princeton) on Saturday, June 5th at 11:00 AM in an elimination contest. The winner of Game 1 and the winner of Game 2 will then square off in Game 4 on Saturday at 3:00 PM. A second elimination game (Game 5) will be played at 7:00 PM.
On Sunday, June 6th, Game 6 (winner of Game 4 vs. winner of Game 5) will be played at 1:00 PM. If necessary, Game 7 would then be played 50 minutes following the conclusion of Game 6 in what would be a rematch of the two teams playing in Game 6.

A limited number of tournament ticket booklets are available at a cost of $36 for a reserved seat and $24 for general admission. The tournament features six and possibly seven games. The booklets include tickets for every tournament game. Fans can order tournament ticket booklets on-line at www.virginiasports.com beginning Sunday evening (May 30).
Beginning Tuesday (June 1), tickets can be purchased through the Virginia athletics ticket office in Bryant Hall or by calling 1-800-542-8821 or 434/924-8821 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. as well as on the internet.
Only ticket booklets will be sold until the first day of the tournament on Friday (June 4). Single-game tickets, if available, will go on sale on Friday at the Virginia athletics ticket office. If available, ticket booklets and single-game tickets will also be on sale at the Davenport Field at the UVa Baseball Stadium ticket windows beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Single-game tickets are $12.00 for reserved seats and $8.00 for general admission.
