GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Virginia swimmer Luke Anderson (Charlottesville, Va./Bolles School) has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week as announced Monday (January 24). Anderson earns the award for the second consecutive week and fourth time this season. He has received the award a record 10 times during his career.
Anderson led the 10th-ranked Virginia men to an impressive 172-71 victory over ACC rival North Carolina on January 22 at the UVa Aquatic and Fitness Center. UVa won 12 of 13 events against the 19th-ranked Tar Heels. With the victory, the Cavaliers improve to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the ACC.
Anderson recorded a pair of individual event victories and also swam on a winning Virginia relay. Anderson won the 50 freestyle with an ACC season-best time of 20.02, bettering the NCAA “B” qualifying standard. The All-American sprinter also posted a “NCAA B” qualifying time of 44.29 in winning the 100 free. He anchored UVa’s winning 400 freestyle relay that won with a time of 3:02.61 and shaved nearly two seconds off its season best time.
Virginia returns to action on Friday, January 28 when it travels to Gainesville, Fla., for a 6:00 p.m. dual meet against Florida. The Gator men are ranked second in the nation, while the Florida women are the third-ranked team in the country.
