GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Virginia second-year second baseman Elea Crockett (Tucson, Ariz./University) has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player of the Week as announced Monday (May 2). It marks the first time Crockett has garnered the ACC’s weekly award. Crockett, 5-3, was red-hot at the plate for UVa and helped the team to a 6-1 mark last week.
In seven games last week, Crockett had 17 hits in 21 at-bats for a phenomenal .810 batting average. Among the 17 hits were three triples, and she also drove in 11 runs, scored 11 times and drew four walks. Crockett posted a 1.095 slugging percentage (23 total bases in 21 at-bats) and also had a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly. She was perfect on all 29 fielding opportunities as well.
Crockett began the week with a seven-for-seven performance at the plate in UVa’s doubleheader sweep over Mount St. Mary’s (April 27). She tied the school record with four hits in the second contest, marking the third time in her career she has had four hits in a game. Crockett also drove in three runs and scored four times in the first game. In a doubleheader sweep over Sacred Heart (April 29), Crockett had four hits in six at-bats, scored four times and drove in a run.
In UVa’s three-game series against Virginia Tech over the weekend, Crockett helped the Cavaliers win two of three games by going six-for-eight at the plate with seven RBI and three runs scored. She had the game-winning hit in both Virginia victories over the Hokies. Crockett tied her career high with four RBI in UVa’s 9-1 win in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader.
Crockett entered the week hitting .303 and raised her batting average 61 points to .364 (64-176). Over the last 15 contests, Crockett has raised her average from .277 to .364. Crockett has been equally impressive in the field as she has a streak of 94 consecutive chances without an error during the last 21 games.
