CHARLOTTESVILLE – Jesse Pritchard, formerly an operations manager with Sports Turf Management, is the new sports turf manager in the University of Virginia athletics department. Jason Bauman, UVa’s associate director of athletics for facilities and operations, announced Pritchard’s appointment on Tuesday (August 9).

Pritchard worked with Sports Turf Management of Woodstock, Ga., since February of 2002. He was responsible for managing the maintenance of athletic fields for clients ranging from high schools to Division I college athletics programs.

At Virginia, Pritchard will oversee a staff responsible for 16 acres of sports turf. He is in charge of all field preparation for the sports of football, baseball, soccer and lacrosse. He is also responsible for general grounds care around the athletics facilities and will manage the annual field maintenance budget.

“Jesse has a great deal of turf knowledge and he is a valuable addition to our athletics program,” Bauman said. “He is very qualified and I’m confident he will perform his responsibilities at a high level.”

Pritchard is a 2001 graduate of the University of Tennessee with a bachelor’s degree in ornamental horticulture and landscape design. He worked as a groundskeeper for the University of Tennessee athletics department before accepting the position with Sports Turf Management. He is a member of the Sports Turf Managers Association.

Pritchard has assumed his responsibilities at Virginia. He replaces Jimmy Rodgers, who left Virginia in February to become the head groundskeeper for the Washington Nationals major league baseball team.
