CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia makes its first trip to Syracuse in 28 years this weekend as the Cavaliers clash with the Orange Saturday afternoon on ESPN2.The Cavaliers had last week off, but practiced Monday through Thursday in preparation for this week’s match-up.
They opened the season with a 31-19 win over Western Michigan in a game where the defense did not give up a touchdown. (It came via an interception return.) QB Marques Hagans threw for a career-high 252 yards and one touchdown. TB Cedric Peerman was a workhorse, gaining 69 yards, all in the second half. He scored on a 1-yard plunge late for an insurance score.
The Orange are coming off a 31-0 win over Buffalo last week and are 1-1 overall this season. The shutout is their first since 1997. Syracuse is playing at home for the third game in a row. The Orange fell to West Virginia 15-7 in the season opener two weeks ago.
