CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s tennis team announced its 2005-06 schedule on Thursday. The Cavaliers will once again play one of the nation’s toughest schedules this season, as 21 of their opponents were ranked in the final 2005 rankings.
Fifteen 2005 NCAA Tournament teams highlight the schedule, including six opponents that were also in College Station last season for the NCAA Round of 16 (Baylor, Duke, Florida State, Illinois, Pepperdine, Texas A&M). The Cavaliers will have home matches this season, seven indoors at the new indoor tennis center at the Boar’s Head Sports Club, and four outdoors at the Snyder Tennis Center. The home schedule includes ACC rivals Florida State, Miami, NC State, and Wake Forest along with traditional powers Baylor, Texas, Texas A&M, and VCU.
“I think this is one of the most well balanced and competitive schedules we have ever put together,” says head coach Brian Boland. The non-conference schedule will allow us to prepare for the ACC, which is without a doubt one of the best conferences in the country.”
In the fall, the Cavaliers will play at numerous individual tournaments, including the 2005 UVa Fall Invitational September 23-25 at the Snyder Tennis Center.
